The Michipicoten group, of Precambrian age, comprises flows and pyroclastic rocks of the andesite-rhyolite association together with conformable zones of clastic sediments and banded iron formations. Volcanic rocks display great heterogeneity, typically exhibiting marked variation in lithology, structure, and thickness over short intervals. Precambrian, period of time extending from about billion years ago (the point at which Earth began to form) to the beginning of the Cambrian Period, million years Precambrian encompasses the Archean and Proterozoic eons, which are formal geologic intervals that lasted from 4 billion to about million years ago, and the Hadean Eon, which is an informal interval spanning from.

Snelling The Precambrian record is a rich one. This paper seeks to harmonise that record with the biblical record.

We do not subscribe to macro-evolutionary palaeontology. Granite and pegmatite. Contrary to popular belief, granite (crystalline igneous rock composed principally of quartz and feldspar) forms only a part of the Teton Range. The Grand Teton (fig. 6) and most surrounding subsidiary peaks are sculptured from an irregular mass of granite exposed continuously along the backbone of the range from Buck Mountain northward toward upper Leigh Canyon.

The geologic formations of Michigan span more than billion years, from some of the oldest Precambrian rocks to loose, unconsolidated drift left behind by the continental ice sheets of the Pleistocene period.
